Pet parasites generally fall into two man categories: external parasites and internal parasites. Fleas, ticks, mites and lice are external parasites which live on your pet’s skin and coat; roundworms, hookworms, tapeworms and heartworms are internal parasites that live inside the body.

Pets can pick up parasites through everyday activities such as sniffing or licking soil, drinking contaminated water, or eating raw meat. External parasites can also spread around the home by attaching to clothing, carpets, furniture and pet bedding.

Some parasites can infect humans. Fleas and ticks may cause itchy, red bites, while certain internal parasites, including worms, can infect people, especially children who play on the ground. Although serious cases are rare, transmission from pets to humans is a real risk.

Parasite preventions should be treated as a household priority, not just a pet concern. Regular veterinary check-ups, consistent parasite protection and good home hygiene are essential. Consult your trusted veterinarian about the right NexGard® product for your pet.
